Snowmobile accident kills 1 in Pyhäranta

One person was killed in a snowmobile accident after the snowmobile went through a river at Pyhäranta municipality in Southwest Finland region early Sunday.

Police said that the accident took place at about 2:00 am when two people were driving a snowmobile on a river at the area.

At certain stage the snowmobile went under the ice in front of Vääränkari as the snow on the river was melting at that time resulting the accident.

Responding to a call several units of Rescue Services, Border Guard and Police rushed to the spot and recovered the body of the victim while the rest one managed to escape by this time.

The Police, however, did not divulge detail about the deceased. An investigation into the accident is on to find out further detail about the reason and the circumstances surrounding the accident.
