Arrivals from Norway, Denmark, UK need COVID test at border

The government on Thursday imposed mandatory coronavirus test for the incoming passengers from Norway, Denmark and United Kingdom at the Finnish borders irrespective of vaccination status, said the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health in a press release.

According to the new restrictions, passengers arriving from Norway, Denmark and United Kingdom would be required to show a negative COVID-19 test certificate issued less than 48 hours before their arrival despite having proof of a full course of vaccination effecting from Thursday afternoon.

The government earmarked the South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini (Swaziland), the United Kingdom, Lesotho, Namibia, Nigeria, Norway, Denmark and Zimbabwe as high-risk countries for coronavirus variant Omicron took the stern restrictions measures on incoming passengers from these countries.

Earlier, the government on Wednesday decided that passengers arriving from outside of EU and Schengen countries who have received a full course of vaccination, also required to carry proof of a negative COVID-19 test.

The government decided the new entry restrictions against the backdrop of worsening coronavirus situation in the country and other parts of the globe. The restrictions will enter into force on 21 December and will be continued until 16 January, 2022.
