2 killed in accidents in Tornio, Varkaus

Two young men were killed in two separate accidents in Tornio and Varkaus on Sunday morning, police said.

A 19-year old man was killed after he fell into a frozen river from a bridge in Tornio in early morning at about 4:00 am.

Rescue service personnel and police rushed to the spot responding to a call and recovered the body of the deceased from the ice in the river.

The Police, however, did not divulge the identity of the victim and disclose detail about the incident.

The law-enforcing agency is investigating the incident and after preliminary investigation, the police did not find any crime link to the death.

Meanwhile, a 20-year old man was killed in a road accident at Patavuorentie in Varkaus on the same day.

Police said that the accident took place at about 9:00 am when a private car skidded off the road and collided with a tree.

The driver of the car died on the spot. There was no other passenger in the car at that time.

The Police did not disclose detail about the identity of the deceased.

The Accident Investigation Board and Police are investigating into the incident to find out the circumstances surrounding the accident.
