Mild tremor jolts Rovaniemi

A mild earthquake jolted Rovaniemi on Saturday evening, the Institute of Seismology of the Helsinki University said.
The tremor with the magnitude of 1.5 in Richter scale shocked Rovaniemi, the heart of Lapland at 18:32 O’clock.
The epicenter of the quake was about five kilometers away from the Santa Claus Village.
However, no human casualty or damage was reported
The quake could be measured by seismic observatory from more than 400 kilometres away. The nearest Sodankylä Observatory is less than 10 kilometres from the epicenter and the case is very clear, said the Seismology Institute of the Helsinki University in a statement.
According to the Institute, the region experienced a very few mild earthquakes in the past decades.
An earthquake of 3.8-magnitude in Richter scale shocked the Alajärvi area in 1979.
