Estonian President due in Helsinki on Thursday

President of Estonia Alar Karis will make his first visit to Finland on Thursday, said a press release issued by the Finnish President´s Office.

President Niinistö will meet the visiting Estonian counterpart at the Presidential Palace.

The topics of discussion will include bilateral relations between Finland and Estonia, as well as other topical international issues.

At the end the meeting, the Presidents will hold a joint press conference.

For President Karis, who started his presidential term on Monday, this is the first foreign trip in his capacity as the President of Estonia. Earlier on the same day, he will also visit Latvia.

Karis, 63, was elected Estonia's fifth president since the country's independence in 1991 with 72 votes of the required 68 in the second round of voting held in the country's 101-member Parliament on Aug. 31.
