Cop sustains bullet wounds in Hämeenlinna

A police officer was injured when the official came under gun attack in an apartment building at Hämeenlinna in Kanta-Häme region late Friday night.

The Police said that the members of the law enforcing agency also fired gunshots to the attacker to bring the situation under control but did not disclose details about the situation of the attacker.

The incident took place at about 11:30 pm when a police patrol rushed to the spot responding to a call.

One person fired gunshot at police during the operation as a result a police official sustained bullet wounds.

The injured police official was admitted to the hospital. The official was released from the hospital later as his injury was not serious.

Police also said that the operation continued till Saturday morning and no other person was in danger.

The case was handed over to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to probe into the incident.

The prosecutor was informed about the incident and investigating whether the police service gun was used properly.

The case is being investigated as an attempted murder.
