Birth rate stays lower than death rate in January-July

A total of 28,918 children were born in the country during the January-July period while the number of total deaths was 32,101, according to Statistics Finland.
The number of births was 3,183 lower than that of deaths during the stipulated period.
The number of births, however, was 1,803 higher and the number of deaths was 170 lower than in the corresponding period in 2020.
According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, Finland's population was 5,543,659 at the end of July. The country's population increased by 9,866 persons during January-July.
The reason for the increase was migration gain from abroad, since immigration exceeded emigration by 12,348.
According to the preliminary statistics for January-July, 17,991 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 5,643 persons emigrated from Finland.
The number of immigrants was 701 higher and the number of emigrants 2,116 lower than in the corresponding period of the previous year. In all, 4,981 of the immigrants and 3,545 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
