8 drown in country during Midsummer

At least eight people were drowned at different parts in the country during the Midsummer, reported national broadcaster Yle, quoting the Coast Guard on Sunday.

Out of the deaths, four were reported on Midsummer Eve ( Friday) while the rest four on the Midsummer day (Saturday).

According to Rescue Services, a 64-year-old man was drowned near Pieksämäki in South Savo, another elderly man was drowned in lake water near Nokia and bodies of two other were recovered from water near Lohja and Raseborg, in southwest Finland late Saturday night.

Earlier, on Friday the Coast Guard reported three incidents of drowning in Eastern Finland while the rest one in the southwest Finland.

A 48-year-old man died near Kontiolahti area in North Karelia and his body was found in the water at about 5:00 pm on Friday, said the Eastern Finland Police Department.

The members of the law enforcing agency also said that another 55-year-old Russian man drowned in Leppävirta and a 71-year-old man from Helsinki drowned in Kontiolahti on Friday evening.

Meanwhile, the Southwest Finland Police reported that one person of 51 years old was drowned in the region on Friday.
