21 killed in road mishaps in May

A total of 21 persons were killed and 274 other injured in 242 road accidents in the country in May, according to Statistics Finland.
The number of deaths was eight higher and the number of injured person was 32 lower than in May 2020.
Out of the deaths, 11 travelled by passenger car, one by van and four by motorcycle. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered four and cyclists one.
Among those who died, 17 were men and four were women.
A total of 71 people were killed and 1,111 other injured in 923 road traffic accidents from January to May this year.
The number of deaths was 11 lower and the number of injured people was 394 lower than in the corresponding period of 2020.
Of the persons who were killed, 43 travelled by passenger car, six by van, four by motorcycle and two by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered 10 and cyclists four. In addition, two other road users were killed.
