A Swedish vessel reportedly violated the Finnish water territory late Saturday night, said official sources on Sunday.
A patrol ship of the Swedish Border Guard violated the territory at west of the Åland Islands at about 9:00 pm, reported the media, quoting a official of the defence ministry sources.
Ministry of Defence Director of Communications Niina Hyrsky told the news agency STT that the ship crossed about 200 metres into Finnish waters and stayed for about 20 minutes
Meanwhile, the Finnish authorities have already sought explanation from the Swedish government about the violation, said the foreign ministry on Sunday.
“The foreign ministry of Finland has contacted the embassy of Sweden in Helsinki and requested for an explanation regarding the suspected violation of territorial waters,” said the ministry in a Twitter post.
