The Helsinki District Court on Wednesday sentenced three Romanians to different terms of imprisonment and financial punishment for operating sex trade in Finland for more than seven years, reported the national broadcaster Yle.

The court sentenced Danut Mladinescu and Cristian Zavoianu to three years imprisonment each while the other convict, Ionut Zavoianu, was sentenced to two years and four months in jail.

The court also fined Mladinescu 400,000 euros to pay compensation to the victims and more than 17,000 euros to the state for legal costs.

Cristian Zavoianu was fined more than 86,000 euros together with Ionut Zavoianu as compensation for the legal costs.

Two other people were also convicted in the case and sentenced to suspended imprisonment for their involvement in running the prostitution racket.

The convicts engaged more than 20 Romanian victims in sex work across Finland from 2013 to 2020 and the court in its verdict said the operation was large-scale and organised.
