SDP still tops in popularity

Support for the Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP), which leads the five-party coalition government, has increased to 21.8 percent from the previous month, according to the results of a poll commissioned by the national broadcaster Yle.

The poll carried out by Taloustutkimus published on Thursday showed that the support for SDP increased by 0.4 percent month on month and it still remains top in the popularity list.

The poll aid the main opposition Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) remained second on the popularity list with 19 percent support, closely followed by another opposition, the Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party-NCP) with 17.7 percent support.

The support for Perussuomalaiset also increased by 0.2 percent while the popularity of Kokoomus decreased by 0.6 percent from the previous month.

Another component of the government, Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party of Finland) surpassed their ruling ally the Vihreä Liitto (Green League).

The second largest component of the government Keskusta got 11.5 percent support as the support for the party went up by 0.2 percentage points.

The support for Vihreä Liitto decreased by 0.8 percent from the previous month to 10.9 percent.

Two other components of the ruling coalition – the Vasemmistoliitto (Left Alliance) and the Suomenruotsalainenkansanpuolue (Swedish People’s Party of Finland-RKP) secured the sixth and seventh places on the popularity list with 7.9 percent and 4.5 per cent supports respectively, while the opposition SuomenKristillisdemokraati (Christian Democratic Party) secured the eighth place with 3.3 per cent support.

"The changes are very small this time," pollster Taloustutkimus’ Research Director Tuomo Turja told Yle.

The biggest change in this month´s survey is the 0.8 percentage point loss of support for the Vihreä Liitto.
