Prime Minister Sanna Marin will attend the special meeting of the European Council in Brussels scheduled for Thursday and Friday, said a government press release.
The prime minister will also represent Sweden in the meeting on a request from Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, as the latter is unable to attend the meeting.
The EU leaders will meet in Brussels to discuss the single market, industrial policy, and the digital transformation, along with external relations, particularly with Turkey and China.
The situation in Belarus and the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Navalny will also be on the agenda.
In addition, the meeting will provide an opportunity to take stock of the COVID-19 pandemic situation.
The meeting was originally scheduled for 24 to 25 September but it was deferred by a week due to the European Council President’s possible exposure to COVID-19.
