MP’s aide assaulted, investigation launched

The police are investigating an incident of assault on Perussuomalainen (Finns Party) Parliamentary Aide Pekka Kataja, reported the local media.

The assault took place at Kataja’s home in Jämsä on Friday, reported the Turun Sanomat, a Finnish language daily which quoted the Keskisuomalainen, another local daily.

Initially, the police were investigating the incident as aggravated robbery. However, latest information stated that the incident is being investigated as attempted murder.

According to the police, two men who are still at large are suspected of the crime.

The parliamentary aide was later transported from his home to Tampere Central Hospital.

According to the national broadcaster Yle, Kataja is the party’s central Finland campaign chief and parliamentary aide to MP Jouni Kotiaho.
