Stora Enso’s Varkaus mill gutted in fire

A huge fire broke out at the forestry company Stora Enso’s mill in Varkaus on Saturday morning, reported the national broadcaster Yle.

The rescue department said it prevented the fire from spreading and was focused on extinguishing work.

The extent of the fire is estimated at 1.5 hectares, and according to the North Savo Rescue Department, it will take several hours to douse the fire.

The emergency response centre was notified of the fire at 9:55 AM.

The factory is located in the centre of Varkaus.
