Prime Minister Sanna Marin on Tuesday in a video conference discussed the COVID-19 virus with the EU Heads of State and Government, the President of the European Commission and the President of the European Central Bank, said an official press release.

During the negotiations led by President of the European Council Charles Michel, the members of the European Council exchanged information on the coronavirus situation and the national measures taken in their countries.

The Heads of State and Government discussed the coordination of measures in order to limit the spread of the virus and curb the economic consequences.

No formal decisions were made during the discussion of the members of the European Council.

Marin noted that the situation in Europe has taken a more serious turn.

“The discussion of the Heads of State and Government emphasised the need for joint coordination and the exchange of up-to-date information. The coronavirus situation is developing rapidly throughout Europe and we are constantly monitoring it. In Finland, the number of infections is still small compared to many other European countries. However, we are prepared for all situations and are assessing the necessary measures on a daily basis,” said the Prime Minister.
