A British woman, who allegedly killed her baby in their house in Espoo last month, died in the Vantaa Prison on Thursday, the police said.
The Eastern Uusimaa police are investigating into the custodial death, said the National Police Board in a press release.
“Commenting on the investigation into the cause of death is limited by strict confidentiality. What can be said on a general basis is that the police are investigating into the circumstances that have led to the death,” said Deputy Chief Inspector Petri Eronen.
Earlier, the police arrested the mother on charge of killing her below school age British child and took her to the Vantaa Prison.
The child was killed on January 19 in an apartment in Suurpelto area of Espoo and after preliminary investigation the police confirmed the incident as a domestic murder.
The law-enforcing agency did not find involvement of any other party in the murder.
The police will inform more on the situation as the investigation proceeds only if it is legally possible under the strict obligation of secrecy when it comes to death investigations.
