A Finnish tourist has been arrested at an international airport in Thailand on charge of suspected bomb threat, national broadcaster Yle reported.

Thai police arrested the 63-year old Finn at the Suvarnabhumi international airport in Bangkok after they tracked down him following issuance of a threat about an explosion at the airport, said the report quoting police.

The man was arrested at the check in on the eve of his flight to Finland on January 1.

The detainee, however, denied issuing a bomb threat and said that he just tried to warn the airport officials about security lapses.

Thai authority, said that the threat issued by the Finn had created panic at the airport.

Such threat is a criminal offence in Thailand and any accused could be sentenced to five to 15 years imprisonment or fine of EUR 6,000 to 18,000, said the Yle report.
