The Helsinki Region Environmental Services (Helsingin seudun ympäristöpalvelut-HSY) asked the residents in Northern Espoo following disruption in water supply, said an official press release on Wednesday.
The health protection authority issued the boil water advisory late Tuesday night for several areas due to a water main break and reduced water pressure.
The water supply disruption was caused when the bucket of an excavator broke a water main at an HSY contractor’s work site in Juvanmalmi.
“Due to the drop in water pressure, drinking water must be boiled as a precautionary measure,” said the press release.
The authority has issued advisory for Juvanmalmi, Kalajärvi, Lahnus, Luukki, Korpilampi, Niittymäki, Odilampi, Perusmäki, Pirttimäki and Punametsä areas.
Water in properties located in the areas must be boiled for at least five minutes before it can be consumed or used for cooking. The boil water advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
Although water pressure has been restored and water samples have been taken, the boil water advisory will remain in effect until the results of the water samples are available and water quality has been confirmed across the entire area.
HSY will give an update on Thursday.
