3 more deaths, 282 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 2 days

The coronavirus death toll in the country has reached 959 as three more patients died in different hospital districts in the last two days since Monday afternoon, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Wednesday afternoon.

Out of the deaths, two were reported in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS)) and the rest one was reported in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS).

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 92, 770 as 282 new cases were diagnosed in the last two days.

Out of the new cases, 154 infections were diagnosed on Tuesday and 128 on Wednesday.

The number of coronavirus variants in the country increased to 7931. Of them, 6, 518 are UK variants, 1,319 South African variants, 92 Indian variants and two Brazilian variants.

So far, 608 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 102 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 102 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS), 85 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), and 62 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 79 coronavirus patients, including 14 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the country.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1,675 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
