No new death, 259 more coronavirus infections diagnosed in 24 hours

The country’s coronavirus death toll remained at 929 as no patient died in the last 24 hours for the second consecutive day, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 90,946 as 259 new cases were diagnosed in that time.

The number of coronavirus variants in the country increased to 6, 875. Of them, 5,639 are UK variants, 1194 South African variants, 40 Indian variants and two Brazilian variants.

So far, 597 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 101 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 87 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS), 83 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), and 61 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 135 coronavirus patients, including 28 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the country.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1,643 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
