2 more deaths, 208 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 24 hours

The country’s coronavirus death toll has reached 913 as two more patients- one in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) and one in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS)- died in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 86, 613 as 208 new cases were diagnosed in that time.

The number of coronavirus variants in the country remained at 4,716. Of them, 4,022 are UK variants, 693 South African variants, and one was Brazilian variant.

So far, 595 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 100 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 82 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), 80 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS), and 56 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 125 coronavirus patients, including 32 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the country.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1,564 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
