2 more deaths, 380 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 24 hours

The coronavirus death toll in the country has reached 887 as two more patients- one in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) and another in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS)- died in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Friday.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 83, 633 as 380 new cases were diagnosed in that time.

The number of coronavirus variants in the country increased to 4, 200. Of them, 3,658 were UK variants, 541 South African variants, and one was Brazilian variant.

So far, 575 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 97 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 81 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), 79 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS), and 55 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 161 coronavirus patients, including 34 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the country.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1,510 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
