4 more deaths, 797 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 24 hours

The coronavirus death toll in Finland increased to 759 as four more patients died at different hospitals in the country in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Wednesday.

Out of the deaths, three were reported in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) while the rest one was reported in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 59,442 as 797 new cases were diagnosed in the last 24 hours, said the THL report.

The total number of the coronavirus variants increased to 1, 274 in the country. Out of the cases 1,205 were UK variants, 68 South African variants, and one was Brazilian variant.

So far, 500 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 79 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), 79 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 63 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS) and 38 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 258 coronavirus patients, including 37 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1074 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
