With the exit polls result showing the Democratic Party (SDS) is leading the Slovenian parliament election, the party leader Janez Jansa on Sunday pledged his party's commitment to homeland, should it build a government.
Jansa said in his Twitter post that if his SDS were to lead a government it would do so in a fair way and for the benefit of all citizens, the Slovenian Press Agency STA reported.
The Slovenian National Electoral Commission will now start counting votes and update partial results regularly until late evening, and will count mail-in ballots from next Monday to get the final result, said STA.
Earlier statistics showed around 34 percent of some 1.7 million Slovenian voters cast their ballots for the over 1,600 candidates running for the 90 seats in the parliament. A total of 25 party lists were on the ballot, 21 of which in all eight electoral units.
After more than 3,000 polling stations across the country closed at 7 p.m. local time, the parliamentary election in Slovenia ended on Sunday.
