The humanitarian mission in the Ukraine-Russia frontline town of Oleshky has concluded, and the evacuated Ukrainian citizens arrived in Ukrainian-controlled territory on Saturday, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, reported Xinhua.
All evacuees will receive the assistance they need, Zelensky wrote on Telegram.
Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's parliamentary commissioner for human rights, who led the Ukrainian delegation during the humanitarian mission in Oleshky, said the oldest evacuee is 94 years old while the youngest is just one year old.
Residents were evacuated from Oleshky, which is in the midst of a humanitarian crisis, on Friday. They flew to Belarus before crossing into Ukraine.
Three planes carrying them landed at Gomel International Airport in southeastern Belarus on Saturday morning, Belarusian state news agency BelTA reported. From Gomel, they were transported by bus to the Nova Guta border crossing with Ukraine.
Before the evacuation, roads leading to Oleshky were cleared of mines and humanitarian aid was delivered.
On Oct. 23, Russia and Ukraine agreed to a temporary ceasefire in Oleshky to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid and organize the evacuation of civilians through safe corridors.
