13 killed, dozens injured in Russian strikes on Kiev region

At least 13 people were killed and dozens injured in Kiev and the surrounding region after a Russian overnight missile and drone attack, local authorities said Thursday, reported Xinhua.

Twelve people died in attacks on the Ukrainian capital, where three districts were hit, Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on Telegram. At least 33 people were injured in the strikes.

In the wider Kiev region, one person was killed and seven others injured in the attacks involving combat drones, as well as ballistic and cruise missiles, Kiev Regional Governor Tymur Tkachenko said in a Telegram post.

Rescue and recovery operations continued at the strike sites on Thursday morning. Kiev authorities declared Aug. 21 a day of mourning.
