Germany has increased its aid to combat the Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo by €11 million, Development Minister Reem Alabali Radovan said on Tuesday, reported dpa.

"We have to remain capable of taking action, especially in times of crisis. The key question now is: How can we achieve as much as possible despite having fewer resources?" Radovan said during an interview with regional public broadcaster RBB.

The ministry confirmed the additional funding in response to a dpa inquiry.

The situation in Congo is extremely serious, Radovan said. "We can now assume that this is the worst Ebola outbreak in the country's history," she said.

Conflict was exacerbating the situation by making it difficult for healthcare workers to reach those infected, Radovan said.

Germany is providing equipment, making mobile laboratories available, and training healthcare workers to educate people in Congo about the disease.
