Russia arrests German citizen over alleged attack attempt

Russia's domestic intelligence service, the FSB, said on Monday it had arrested a German citizen on suspicion of terrorism after she allegedly tried to carry out an attack in Russia's North Caucasus, reported dpa.

The woman, born in 1969, was said to have acted on behalf of Ukrainian intelligence services in the city of Pyatigorsk in the Stavropol region, the FSB said, according to the Interfax news agency.

According to the FSB, the target was a facility used by Russian law enforcement authorities.

A bomb was said to have been found in the suspect's rucksack and then defused.

Since the start of Russia's war against Ukraine, the FSB has regularly reported that it has foiled attacks and arrested suspects accused of crimes on behalf of Ukrainian intelligence services.
