5,000 kg of cocaine seized in Dutch customs operation

A shipment of nearly 5,000 kilograms of cocaine was recently intercepted by Dutch customs, the Dutch Public Prosecution Service (OM) confirmed on Tuesday, describing it as one of the largest drug seizures ever involving the Netherlands as the intended final destination, reported Xinhua.
According to an OM press release, the shipment was delivered to a company in the municipality of Moerdijk, in the southern province of North Brabant.
The cocaine was discovered on Jan. 8 and 9 in two containers transporting electric magnets. Further investigation revealed that a total of 4,882 packages were concealed within the magnets, with a combined weight of nearly 5,000 kilograms of cocaine.
A suspect from the Netherlands was arrested in connection with the case and appeared before an examining magistrate on Tuesday.
The seized drugs have since been destroyed.
