Two Dutch F-35 fighter jets were scrambled on Sunday after an unidentified drone was detected in Dutch airspace, the country's Ministry of Defense said, reported Xinhua.

The drone later left Dutch airspace and posed no immediate threat, the ministry said in a release. Air traffic was not disrupted.

The drone did not identify itself to air traffic control via radio or transponder, according to the ministry.

The two Royal Netherlands Air Force F-35s have since returned to Volkel Air Base. The ministry noted that its fighter jets are on standby around the clock and can take off within minutes to intercept unidentified aircraft.
