One person died and several others were injured after an "explosive" apartment fire in Copenhagen on Friday morning, Reported Xinhua, quoting local police.

Copenhagen Police said on the social media platform X that officers and the Danish capital's emergency services were called to a fire in an apartment building on Virkefeltet in the Tingbjerg district, where an "explosive" blaze had broken out in one flat and a person was later found dead inside.

Three people suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital but were not believed to be seriously injured. Another person injured a foot after jumping from a window to escape the fire, local media reported.

Several surrounding apartments were evacuated as firefighters brought the blaze under control and police began technical investigations at the scene. Later in the day, residents in parts of the building were allowed to return to their homes, while apartments in the same stairwell as the fire-damaged unit remained evacuated, police said.

There are currently no indications that the fire was caused by criminal activity, but the cause of the blaze is still under investigation, according to police.
