Two people were killed Saturday when a light aircraft crashed in Spain's Valencia region, the regional government confirmed, reported Xinhua.
The accident occurred near the town of Requena at approximately 11:25 a.m., when the plane went into a steep dive shortly after takeoff and crashed into nearby fields, killing both occupants.
The aircraft was completely destroyed by fire. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Weather conditions at the time were reported to be favorable.
Both victims were men from the nearby city of Valencia. According to local newspaper Las Provincias, one of them was a 70-year-old man with close ties to Requena Aerodrome, a private facility near Requena. The aerodrome has a runway primarily used for training and private flights.
Meanwhile, two people died on Saturday when a small plane crashed in the yard of a former factory in the western Romanian city of Arad, reported the official Agerpres news agency, citing local emergency services.
The two men died on impact from fatal injuries, the Arad County Ambulance Service said.
The ultralight was on a recreational flight with a 47-year-old professional pilot from Bucharest and an 18-year-old from Arad, investigators said. It had taken off from the Siria airfield about 25 km away and was approaching Arad Airport when it went down a few km short of the runway.
The plane broke apart on impact, with the engine found some distance from the fuselage. The factory, which closed in June, had a few security staff present who alerted emergency services. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
