Czech police said Friday they have arrested a man who threatened to carry out a shooting at the Charles University's Faculty of Arts in Prague, reported Xinhua.

"We received the notification at 2:30 p.m. and located the man within 45 minutes," police stated on social media platform X.

The 34-year-old suspect was unarmed and did not possess a firearms license, police said. "He is now in custody. We will take him to the hospital as he is not mentally well," they added.

Earlier, police reported that dozens of officers were deployed to track down a man who entered the Faculty of Arts building in downtown Prague, exhibited abnormal behavior, and issued shooting threats.

Charles University clarified that operations at the faculty remained unaffected, and students were allowed to enter and leave the building freely. Police officers guarded the premises as a precaution, and no evacuation was necessary, according to the Czech News Agency.

This incident comes nearly a year after a tragic shooting at the Faculty of Arts last December, when a student opened fire, killing 14 people and wounding 25 others.
