Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was received by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at his official residence in Berlin, Bellevue Palace, on Friday afternoon, reported dpa.

Steinmeier and Erdoğan greeted each other with a handshake, after which the Turkish president signed the palace guest book.

Erdoğan's first visit to Germany in three years is scheduled to be very brief, with plans to fly back to Turkey on Friday evening following dinner with Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Erdoğan and Scholz are expected to answer questions from reporters at a joint press conference before the dinner.

The Turkish leader's visit was met with protests around Berlin, with police deploying around 2,800 officers for security.
