1 held after car crashes into Downing Street gate

A car crashed into the front gates of Downing Street, where the British prime minister's office and residence are located, London's Metropolitan Police (Met) said on Thursday, reported Xinhua.

"Armed officers arrested a man at the scene on suspicion of criminal damage and dangerous driving" after a car hit the gates at around 4:20 p.m. local time, the Met said in a statement.

There are no reports of any injuries and inquiries are currently underway, according to police.
