German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius and his Danish counterpart Troels Lund Poulsen will visit the training of Ukrainian soldiers on Leopard 1 A5 main battle tanks on Friday, reported dpa.

The soldiers are being trained by German and Danish instructors to use and maintain the weapon system at the German army site in Klietz in the country's east. Technicians from the defence industry are supporting the training programme.

Germany, together with the Netherlands and Denmark, is also financing the repair of the battle tanks from industry's stocks.

During the visit, Pistorius and Lund Poulsen will hold talks with instructors and Ukrainian soldiers. The site is the central hub of the EU Military Assistance Mission to Ukraine in Germany

So far, more than 3,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been trained. By the end of the year, the number is expected to grow to up to 9,000.
