German armaments manufacturer Rheinmetall is setting up a maintenance and logistics centre in Romania to service tanks, howitzers and other heavy Western military equipment delivered to Ukraine, reported dpa.
The service centre in Satu Mare near the Romanian-Ukrainian border is scheduled to start operations later in April, a company spokesman told dpa on Monday.
Rheinmetall indicated that the centre will play a significant role in providing Ukraine with logistical support.
The centre could service main battle tanks such as the German-made Leopard 2 and the British Challenger 2 as well as self-propelled howitzers, armoured personnel carriers and military trucks.
