Russia registers 33,796 new COVID-19 cases

Russia has confirmed 33,796 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 9,468,189, the official monitoring and response center said Thursday, reported Xinhua.

The national death toll grew by 1,238 to 269,057, while the number of recoveries increased by 38,450 to 8,164,826.

Meanwhile, Moscow, Russia's worst-hit region, reported 3,349 new cases, taking its total to 1,930,050.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said on Wednesday that the country's immunity rate has reached 50.4 percent.

President Vladimir Putin announced on Wednesday that he had received a nasal COVID-19 vaccine, after getting his third jab on Sunday.

Russia has registered a COVID-19 vaccine for children, Gam-COVID-Vak-M, suitable for children aged 12-17.

Putin reiterated that vaccination should be voluntary, especially for children.
