Russia records 23,704 daily COVID-19 infections

Russia registered 23,704 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours as the Delta variant continued to spread, taking the nationwide tally to 6,030,240, the official monitoring and response center said Wednesday, reported Xinhua.

The nationwide death toll grew by 783 to 150,705, while the number of recoveries increased by 22,584 to 5,404,797.

Meanwhile, Moscow, Russia's worst-hit region, reported 3,254 new cases, taking its total to 1,473,584.

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday that efforts aimed at expanding domestic vaccine production are ongoing.

Commenting on allegations that Russia is not open about coronavirus data in the country, the spokesman said there was no secrecy around the pandemic and official data on the number of cases, fatalities and recoveries are regularly published and always available.
