The coronavirus pandemic kept a downward path in Italy, with active infections falling by 1,162 to 31,710 Wednesday, according to the latest official data, reported Xinhua.
At the same time, the country's coronavirus death toll rose to 34,114, after a total of 71 new fatalities were registered over the past 24 hours in 10 out of Italy's 20 regions, the daily bulletin of the Civil Protection Department showed.
The department highlighted that the number of cases hospitalized dropped consistently on a daily basis.
Of active infections, 249 patients are currently in intensive care, down by 14 compared to Tuesday, and 4,320 hospitalized with symptoms, down by 261.
The remaining 27,141, or 86 percent of those who tested positive, are isolated at home because they are asymptomatic or with mild symptoms.
With 1,293 new recoveries over the 24 hours, the total of people recovered rose to 169,939, the Civil Protection Department stated.
Overall, the number of assessed cases in Italy, combining active infections, fatalities and recoveries, stood at 235,763 Wednesday.
The daily bulletin showed a promising picture of the level of contagion across the country, with seven regions registering no new cases Wednesday.
Lombardy, the country's most affected region since the pandemic broke out in late February, reported 99 new infections Wednesday, down from 192 registered in the previous day.
These data came days ahead of the reopening of some of the last activities still kept shut since the lockdown was imposed on March 10.
Starting Monday, children summer camps, discos, cinema and theaters, and cultural places will be allowed to reopen under the safety rules, including social distancing and strict use of face masks.
