The Spanish Ministry of Health, Consumer Affairs and Social Welfare on Tuesday confirmed a drop in the number of new coronavirus deaths in the country and a slight increase in new cases.

The ministry confirmed 35 new COVID-19 deaths, 15 fewer than the 50 confirmed Monday, bringing the country's total fatalities to 27,117.

There was a slight increase in the number of new infections detected by PCR tests, which indicate whether the coronavirus is active in the body. The ministry reported 194 new infections, compared with 132 cases 24 hours earlier, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 236,259.

A total of 158 new cases were confirmed in the regions of Madrid and Catalonia, with no other region reporting more than eight cases and five reporting none at all. Eight regions reported no coronavirus-related deaths in the last 24 hours.
