The coronavirus pandemic has claimed 14,681 lives in locked-down Italy, bringing the total number of infections, fatalities and recoveries so far to 119,827, the latest data from the country's Civil Protection Department managing the national emergency response showed on Friday.

On daily basis, 766 deaths of COVID-19 were reported on Friday compared with Thursday's 760 cases.

The number of active infections increased to 85,388, with 2,339 new cases compared to the previous day.

Of those positive for COVID-19, some 4,068 patients are in intensive care units, 28,741 are in normal wards, while the remaining people, or over 62 percent of total infections, are quarantined at home, Civil Protection Department chief Angelo Borrelli told a press conference.

The number of the recovered people grew by 1,480 cases in the day, reaching a total of 19,758 recoveries, according to the data.

Italy has been under a national lockdown since March 10 after the coronavirus pandemic first broke out in the northern regions of the country on Feb. 21.
