The 20-year-old Afghan man who stabbed two American tourists at Amsterdam Central Station last year was sentenced to 26 years and eight months imprisonment on Monday by an Amsterdam court.

The court also decided that the man with the name Jawed S. has to pay his victims almost three million euros in damages.

The man traveled by train from the German town of Ingelheim to Amsterdam last year. He got off at the Central Station and later attacked with a knife the two Americans who were standing in line at a public transport information desk.

Jawed S. had stated in court that he wanted to kill "unfair and cruel people". The victims were random passers-by. They survived the attack, but were seriously injured.
