Number of students at Finnish polytechnic Institutes on rise

The number of students in university of applied sciences ( Polytechnic Institutes) education continued to grow in 2025, according to Statistics Finland.

The number of students attending university of applied sciences education leading to a degree was 183,200, of whom 57,600 were new students.

A total of 36,300 degrees were completed of which 6,900 were master's degrees.

The number of students grew by four per cent, that of new students by six per cent and that of attainers of degrees by seven per cent compared to the previous year.

Out of the students 25,000 attended education leading to a master’s degree.

In education leading to a university of applied sciences degree as a daytime programme, engineering, manufacturing and construction was the biggest field of education measured by the number of students (27% of students), and in blended learning it was health and welfare (39% of students).

Since 2019, the number of students at universities of applied sciences has grown by 29 per cent.
