Energy consumption rises by 6% in Finland in H1

The total energy consumption in Finland in the first six months of 2026 was 688 petajoules (PJ), which was six per cent more than one year before, according to Statistics Finland.

The cold weather conditions in the early part of the year particularly increased the demand for energy. Total electricity consumption increased by 6.5 per cent from the year before.

The consumption of renewable energy totalled 314 petajoule (PJ) in January to June 2026, or four per cent more than one year earlier.

The combined consumption of fossil fuels and peat amounted to 174 PJ, or two per cent less than in the year before.

Total electricity consumption was 46 terawatt hours (TWh), or 6.5 per cent less than in January to June of last year.

Carbon dioxide emissions from the energy use of fuels amounted to 11 million tonnes, which was eight per cent less than in the year before.
