Electricity production at Olkiluoto 2 (OL2) nuclear power plant will continue at a reduced power level until the end of 2027, said the owner of the plant Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) in a press release on Thursday.

Refurbished spare rotor for the plant unit arrived at Olkiluoto on Wednesday and the completely new and technically improved rotor is expected to arrive in late 2027.

Power generation at OL2 has been operated at a reduced power level of 735 MW in order to reduce the risk of failure, since TVO has not had a spare generator rotor in storage.

The unit’s full capacity is 890 MW.

As a result of conservative analyses, the unit’s electricity production will continue at the reduced power level until a completely new rotor has been installed at the plant unit.

Previously, TVO had announced that the reduced power level would continue until the 2027 annual outage.
