Industrial output drops in Finland in January

Seasonally adjusted industrial output decreased by 1.1 per cent in January from the month before, according to Statistics Finland.
The output, however, remained on level with January 2025.
Adjusted for working days, output in manufacturing was 1.8 per cent lower in January 2026 than one year earlier. Seasonally adjusted output in manufacturing decreased by 2.0 per cent from the month before.
Among the main industries examined in the chart, industrial output grew most in January in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, by 5.2 per cent, and in the electrical and electronics industry, by 4.4 per cent from the month before. Output in the food industry was 2.8 per cent higher than in December 2025.
In January, industrial output declined most in the chemical industry, where output decreased by 14.7 per cent from the month before.
The fall in output was more moderate in other main industries. Output decreased by 4.3 per cent in mining and quarrying, by 1.5 per cent in the forest industry and by 0.1 per cent in the metal industry compared to December 2025.
