The Olkiluoto 3 (OL3) nuclear power plant unit, which remained disconnected from electricity production from March 1 due to a service outage, will resume production by April 28, said the owner of the plant Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) in a press release on Sunday.
The service outage has progressed smoothly and according to the current estimate, electricity production at the plant unit can resume earlier than the scheduled time.
Originally, the outage was scheduled to be completed in early May.
The scheduling of Olkiluoto’s annual outage was based not only on experience from previous outages but also on preparations for potential unforeseen repairs.
The ongoing outage at OL3 has so far avoided major surprises that could affect the timeline, and the planned tasks have proceeded well.
The most extensive work has now been completed, and the next step involves carrying out a few final preparatory tasks to enable the restart of the plant and the resumption of electricity production.
Electricity production at the Olkiluoto 2 plant unit (OL2) remained suspended from April 15, due to increased moisture detected in the turbine island’s generator.
