New car registration rises by 19% in May

A total of 9,435 new passenger cars were registered in May 2023, which was 19 per cent more than one year earlier, according to Statistics Finland.

In all, 16,718 new vehicles were registered in May. First registrations increased by 6 per cent from the corresponding month of the previous year.

In the January to May period of 2023 a total of 37,711 passenger cars were first registered, which was 4 per cent more than one year earlier.

Of first-time registered passenger cars in May 2023, 35 per cent were electric. The number of electric cars registrations was 3,275, more than tripled from the corresponding month of the previous year.

Used imported passenger numbered 3,037, which was 26 per cent fewer than one year earlier.
